INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE CELEBRATION @ KONAWAENA HIGH SCHOOLMAIN COURTYARD
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST, 4:30 – 7:30 pm

Inspired students, teachers, and staff at our local high school are in high-creativity mode, painting wood, designing silk banners, and assembling a peace art project that you and I can co-create.

Highlighting the upcoming International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) will be music, dance, yoga, and art as well as food, keiki activities, student poetry, and a sustainable agriculture booth. Peace Day has been observed on September 21st around the world each year since 1981 when the United Nations resolved to set aside a day each year to strengthen the “ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

Come help create a 1,001 Crane Community Mural! You’ll be guided in how to paint an image of an origami crane and a message of goodwill on a ceramic tile. The tiles will become part of the community tile mural on campus. Messages may honor a loved one and the mural entire mural will be a reminder of what is good in our world.

Michelle Obregon, the prolific Kealakekua artist and popular KHS technology educator who has spearheaded the event, invites you to “Bring out that 60’s outfit and get GROOVY!” at this fun family event on the Konawaena campus.

Get involved by attending the event to encourage, appreciate and celebrate youth in our community who are committed to building a Culture of Peace.
