The Future Will Be Painted

A new volunteer stood in the doorway after our closing circle, still glowing, like someone who’d just witnessed a quiet miracle. “Every single one of those children came in feeling hopeless,” she said softly. “And then they tapped into something… a deep and tender place.”

“Their genius?” I asked. “Their spirit? What moves that much despair into hope?”

She paused, watching the last child skip out the door, painting rolled under one arm. “Creativity,” she said. “It liberates them.”

The World Is Loud. This Is the Antidote.

We live in a time when children are absorbing fear faster than they can process it. Voices silenced. Families fractured. The media — hijacked by anxiety and noise — competes for the most tender parts of a child’s nervous system.

And it’s winning. Until it isn’t.

Because something extraordinary happens when a brush touches paper. A hush falls. Shoulders drop. Eyes soften. The mind that was spinning — stops.

One boy, bent over his painting at Lei ‘Ohana, whispered to no one in particular: “I am a seed of peace. This paintbrush is my magic wand.”

A seven-year-old girl, who’d been teased at school all week, painted a tree with golden branches reaching toward the sky. When asked what it meant, she said: “It means I belong.”

Another child leaned in: “We all belong.”

Today, at Lei Ohana, an affordable housing center in Kailua Kona, we have witnessed extraordinary leaps of personal, social and emotional intelligence. Children and families in a 6-week AWE program painted cards as gifts to others while exploring and finding new ways to live, breathe, move, imagine, help each other, and paint futures full of happy hearts.

This Is What Liberation Actually Looks Like

At Lei ‘Ohana, AWE offers workshops and after-school programs. Children who often arrive restless, anxious, casting glances at the clock, are transformed.

Not because we fixed anything. Because we remembered something with them.

That creativity is not a luxury. It is a birthright. It is the original language of the soul — and when children speak it, they stop being victims of their circumstances and become creators of their futures.

Troubled children find calm. Lonely ones find belonging. Restless energy softens into patience. And families — quietly, almost mysteriously — report more kindness at home.

A Thought That Won’t Leave Me

What if a young Adolf Hitler — rejected by art school, burning with humiliation and nowhere to put it — had found a circle like this? A place where his hunger to create was met with yes instead of no?

What futures are we shaping right now, in the rooms where children are either taught to create — or left to consume?

This is not rhetorical. This is the question that drives everything we do.

The Ripple Doesn’t Stop in the Classroom

Every brushstroke sends a signal: You matter. Your vision matters. Beauty is possible — and you are capable of making it.

That signal travels home. Into families. Into neighborhoods. Into the next generation’s bones.
We are building a culture of care, one circle at a time. And we cannot do it alone — nor should we. This work belongs to all of us.

Keep the Peace Wave rising.

When the world shouts fear and division, creativity can feel far away — and without it, we risk losing hope.

But here’s the truth: hope is alive in every child’s imagination. This is what your support makes possible:

Where others sow fear, we plant joy.
Where others close doors, we open hearts.
Where helplessness sets in, we awaken creativity.

From Fear to Joy — The Path We’re Building Together

In our left-brain dominant society, children are trained into fear, conformity, and numbness – a function of the analytical, mechanical brilliance of the left hemisphere. This imbalance leads to more trauma when the media, manipulated by greed and aggression, displaces their natural joy with fear, and they suffer.

But not here.

In the bright spaces co-created by AWE Peace Arts Guides, heartful volunteers, teachers, and extended families, ArtWavEs is restoring peace through creativity, truth, beauty, and goodness.

Joy, fulfillment, belonging, sharing, and imagination foster connection and compassion rather than fragmentation and fear.

Painting a New Paradigm

Every child deserves a happy heart. With each brushstroke, movement, kindness circle, and shared meal, we send ripples of hope far beyond the classroom.

These small shifts grow into a culture of care — a culture that can’t change history, but it can change the future.

When children paint peace, they light up the world. This is the paradigm shift: joyful love and creativity build the foundations for peace.

And this is why we need you.

Your gifts bring more colors, more chants, and more shared feasts of connection into children’s lives.

Your support multiplies the ripple effect — from one child to one family, from one community to the wider world.

We’re Painting a New World — and There’s Room for You

Maybe you feel it — that pull toward something that actually matters. Something that heals rather than harms. Something that reminds you why you’re here.

There are many ways to answer that pull:

Come volunteer. Watch what happens when a child discovers they’re an artist. You’ll leave happier and more hopeful than when you arrived. Call 808-345-0050.

Become a Peace Arts Guide. We train teachers, healers, parents, and anyone who works with children in the AWE methodology — a living curriculum of creativity, movement, and heart.

Join our board. If you carry vision, strategic wisdom, or community connections, we need your mind and your mission around our table.

Contribute what you can. Colors cost money. Feasts of fruit and pizza cost money. The ripple effect is free — but the brushes aren’t.

Your donation right now is more than charity.

It is a stand for freedom. A brushstroke of courage. A lifeline of hope.

Whatever calls you: answer it.

Will You Help Us Paint This New Paradigm?

With every brushstroke, song, and circle, children and families reclaim a personal sense of agency. They remember that they are not powerless — they are creators of peace. And when they experience the collective flow of energy moving toward harmony, as they do during our events, grace lingers in the air. They recover and restore their happy hearts.

Give generously today. Together, we can transform helplessness into joy, despair into creativity, silence into song.

Donate Now Here: Children for Peace

Keep the Peace Wave rising, spreading hope, joy, and funds for our programs.

With gratitude, love, laughter, and an unreasonable amount of hope —
